Thepresent study aimed to understand the population dynamics of the Mexican barredsnapper Hoplopagrus guentherii inSanta Rosalía, Gulf of California. This specie is among the most economicallyimportant resource of the artisanal fisheries. The size structure ranged from28.0 cm (female) to 69.0 cm (male) total length. The weight-length relationshipexpressed with the equation W = a × Ltb for all specimens and by sexindicated isometric growth. There was a greater number of females than males. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) showed two maturity peaks in April and June, andtwo spawning periods in May and July. The hepatosomatic index decreased duringspawning, reflecting the energy translocation, but the general condition of H.guentherii did not vary significantly during the year. The size at firstcapture was estimated to be 42.5 cm total length. This constitutes basicinformation for the fisheries management of the species.
