The size at sexual maturity (DWˆ50) of the bat ray (Myliobatis californica), the second most abundant commercial species of ray in the artisanal fisheries of Baja California Sur, Mexico, was estimated through a multi-model approach and inference. Five sigmoidal models were used and fit the data well (the Akaike difference < 2), from them the Lysack (1980), Bakhayokho (1983), White et al. (2002), and Brouwer and Griffiths (2005) models estimated the same DWˆ 50 for M. californica. In consequence, the Lysack (1980) model was selected to estimate along with the Gompertz model (1825) a more reliable DWˆ50 of the average model (DW-50). The estimated DW-50 for females (99.0-cm, CI95%= 89.8–104.5) was greater than that of males (64.6-cm, CI95%= 61.2–67.7). The multi-model approach and inference are useful tools to estimate the DWˆ50 of a species with greater reliability, being the selection of candidate models of great importance. The information obtained could contribute to the fishing management of the species, which becomes more relevant considering the high percentage (75%) of immature individuals of M. californica observed in the landings from Bahia Tortugas zone, Mexico.
