Pseudobatos glaucostigmus is an elasmobranch known as “guitar pint”. This species is one of the most representative lines in the artisanal fishery in Santa Rosalía, B.C.S. According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), it is registered as a deficient species of data and scarce biological knowledge. For the management of its commercial exploitation it is necessary to have basic scientific information. The objective of the present study is to analyze and describe reproductive characteristics of the guitar pint, both on an anatomic macroscopic scale, as well as histological and cellular. For this study, 136 samples of specimens of both sexes are available, of which the morphometric parameters of each individual have been recorded. The descriptions of the microscopic anatomy of the reproductive system are in process, with greater attention to the gametogenic stages in breeding females by histological processing of the ovaries. The size composition by sex obtained was from 52 cm to 79 cm, as well as the sexual proportion. The macroscopic and morphometric scale examination showed that both uteri and ovaries are functional. It was recorded that 98% of the samples are sexually mature females, and of this particular group 98% are pregnant. Besides, we founded differences in the size composition between males and females. This reproduction study contributes to elaborate recommendations for an adequate management of this fishery resource, in order to guarantee its sustainableexploitation.
