To understand the operation of the fleet dedicated to the scallop fishery (Argopecten ventricosus) in Bahia Magdalena-Almejas the amount of landed catch and its “beach” value were estimated based on fishing trip arrival reports by fishermen from 1998 to 2008. Maps were drawn, delimiting four fishing areas related to physiographic characteristics of the region, resource distribution and capture frequency in 19 localities. For each zone, fishing pressure and the relative importance of the fishery were estimated, and fleet movement patterns were identified. Most fishing pressure occurs from April to July, although in recent years the fishing season has recorded catches until December, interacting with the shrimp fishing season. During the study period the production was unstable, with values above 14,000 t in 2004, 2007 and 2008, and the absence of catch in 1999 and 2000. The West Bahia Magdalena zone contributes over 80% of the production value. The fleet’s movement between zones is low.
