Structure of the community of shallow-bottoms mollusks on the sand bar El Mogote, Gu

Arturo Tripp Quezada, Arturo Tripp Valdez y Nicolás Enrique Arcos Huitrón

To identify spatio-temporal variation patterns in the structure of the shallow-bottom malacogical fauna of the sand bar El Mogote, we sampled 48 stations, 24 in the Bahía de la Paz and 24 in the Ensenada de La Paz, twice in the summer and winter of 2003. A total of 76 species of mollusks were identified. Members of the Veneridae family were dominant, mainly represented by Chione californiensis, Donax californicus, and Donax navicula. Their wide distributions can be interpreted as a great ability to inhabit different areas in the study area. The diversity and equitability index differed between the two sampling periods, with winter having the highest value. 50% of the stations located towards the Bahía de La Paz are higher (H ‘= 2.5 bits/ind-1 and J = 0.9) and species richness on both coasts is not more than 13 taxa in 75% of the stations sampled. The diversity on both shores of the sand bar are not significantly different except for winter, when there were significant differences in the values of diversity.
