Microzooplankton grazing on phytoplankton was studied in a Mexican subtropical lagoon by the dilution method, at a fixe station in Ensenada of La Paz Bay (24º08’43.99” N, 110º21.08’26” W) to 1) determine phytoplankton growth rate and 2) mortality rate attributable to microzooplankton. Apparent phytoplankton growth rates (k) linearly decreased with increase of the fraction of filtered water. The grazing impact (g) of microzooplankton in November 2006 corresponds to instantaneous mortality range among 0.02 and o.04?d-1 and the range corresponding to grazing impact were from 39 to 75% of phytoplankton standing stock per day. The relationship between growth rates and mortality rates due to grazing suggest a low impact of grazing on phytoplankton because its growth exceed grazing, and not produced a significant removal of chlorophyll a in the studied site during autumn.
