Detailed gonad morphology and oocyte development is essential for a complete understanding of the reproductive strategies of the copepods. This study was conducted to describe the gonad morphology and internal maturation process of Centropages furcatus. Females of C. furcatus were collected in La Paz bay, Mexico. Whole females were fixed in Davidson and histologically processed. Based on morphological criteria, C. furcatus display the five oocyte development stages described in calanoid copepods. The ovary maturation is a continuous process and then all the oocyte types were simultaneously present. The ovary is dorsally located. In the posterior part of ovary there is a clear germinal zone. Germ cells, oogonia and previtelogenic oocytes (OS 0) in early phases of meiosis are the only cells in the ovary. Previtelogenic oocytes migrate from the ovary into one of the two anterior diverticula toward the head region. From here, oocytes continue the backward migration inside the corresponding posterior diverticula where their maturation is completed. No membrane separating an upper and a lower channel in the diverticula was detected. From the histological analysis, the distribution of the different oocyte types was clearly distinguished. The previtelogenic oocytes form an outer layer of several rows of oocytes (along the entire prosoma). The less developed oocytes are located in the outer par
