The purpose of this work is to generate an updatedrecord of higher education institutions in Mexico that offer undergraduate andpostgraduate studies in aquatic and marine sciences, from which a generalassessment can be made in accordance with the "Guía para evaluarbibliotecas de Instituciones de Educación Superior" of the ConsejoNacional para Asuntos Bibliotecarios de las Instituciones de Educación Superior,A.C. (CONPAB-IES), on the level of development in terms of organizationalstructure, resources, collections, services, and application of informationtechnologies. The information obtained in the first stage of the work wascarried out through an exhaustive review of 207 websites of public and privateinstitutions registered with the Asociacion Nacional de Universidades eInstituciones de Educacion Superior (ANUIES). The data obtained at this stageallowed a directory of 38 librarians to be made, which was not available, andthe elaboration of the questionnaire should be more precise. The second stagewill be to analyze the data that the librarian colleagues send us once theresponses are received. In conclusion, the academic libraries of theinstitutions where aquatic and marine and sciences are taught have unevenlevels of development, which are produced by various causes, but the mostevident is the low visibility of the academic library.
