Ascidian are recognized for being producers of bioactive compounds with potential use as anticancer, antibacterial and antioxidants, among others. In this sense, the bioactivity of the colonial ascidia Distaplia stylifera, collected in Laguna de La Paz, B.C.S was evaluated. The crude extract and the fractions obtained were assessed against a panel of pathogenic bacteria by broth microdilution. As well as, hemolytic activity (blood agar), antioxidant activity (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydracil (DPPH)) and acute toxicity against Artemia franciscana were also evaluated. Both the crude extract and the fractions showed slight DDPH sequestering activity, as well as hemolytic activity and very low toxicity against A. franciscana nauplii (>750 µg mL-1). The greatest antibacterial activity was presented against Escherichia coli, one of the fractions (DSF2F4) inhibited it up to 80%. In the literature there are reports on compounds obtained from other species related to D. stylifera that produce alkaloids with varied biological activities, including didemnins, which is why the purification and structural identification of antibacterial compounds and DPPH free radical scaveng ing activity continue.
