Bacterial strains and VPMS1 phage were obtained from the CICIMAR microbe collection. Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains were isolated from shrimp farms in northwestern Mexico during an AHPND outbreak in 2014, and were positive for both PirA/PirB likegenes by PCR using AP3 (Sirikharin et al., 2014) and PirB (Lee et al., 2015) primers. Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC-17802 (VPATCC-17802, host strain of VPMS1 phage) was included as a negative control for AP3-like gene. In addition, three Vibrio alginolyticus strains (PL14D, PL15A and FLLA), a virulent strain of V. harveyi [EC11, (Balcazar & Rojas-Luna, 2007)] and a V. campbellii strain (CVC), not associated to AHPND, were evaluated.
