El cambio estacional del mesozooplancton en la Bahía de La Paz, Baja California Sur, México (2003-2004)

Abundance and community structure of mesozooplancton (333?m) were studied in October and December 2003, February, June and August 2004 at a fixed station in La Paz Bay, in order to analyze the changes of mesozooplankton community, as well as its relationship with the surface temperature and chlorophyll a concentration. Mesozooplancton was separated into functional groups, standardizing the abundance to 1 m³ filtered water. From 50 zooplankton samples were identified 20 systematic groups and copepods, cladocerans, and decapods were the most abundant and frequent taxa. In October were observed the highest biovolumes, and during August the lowest. The abundance was higher in June and lower in February. The lack of significant correlation between biomass and mesozooplanktonic abundance with sea surface temperature, suggests relatively stable environmental conditions along studied period; that scenario needs to be compared over time with subsequent information for 2003-2004, especially because the results showed that the abundance and biomass of zooplankton were not statistically related to sea surface temperature nor the concentration of chlorophyll a.
