The samples of Sargassum horridum were collected monthly in Agua de Yepis (Bahía de La Paz, B. C. S.) in 2012, to study the monthly change some of its chemical and biological activity. Alginates were obtained using the methodology proposed by Arvizu-Higuera et al. The yield ranged from 9.5% (August) to 20.8% (April). The viscosity of alginates varied from 10 (May) to 18.5 mPa.s (February). Gel strength was at least 643 (April) and a maximum of 1145 g.cm-2 (July). The fucoidan were purified by fractional precipitation and evaluated its anticoagulant activity. Prothrombin time (PT) doubled the clotting time (11.5s) and partialthromboplastin time (aPTT) exceeded this time more than ten times (> 300 sec) with respect to clotting time controls (34 s). The ethanol extract was obtained by macerating the seaweed with ethanol (100%) and their antioxidant activity was evaluated using the method of the stable free radical 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) measuring absorbance at 517 nm. (Goupy et al. 1999). In the DPPH assay, all extracts showed activity, the minimum percentage was 23.2% (August) and the maximum 55.9% (March). The results suggest that S. horridum of Bahía de La Paz, contain components of commercial interest and can be harvested after reproductive period and leaving the basal part, to allow sexual and vegetative regeneration. These measures may help the stock to recover for the next year after harvesting.
