Filogenia molecular del género Eugerres (Teleostei: Gerreidae)

María Isabel Miranda Marín y Adrián Felipe González Acosta

Fish from genus Eugerres (family Gerreidae) are represented by three species that distribute in the eastern Pacific: E. axillaris, E. brevimanus, and E. lineatus; three in the western Atlantic: E. awlae, E. brasilianus, and E. plumieri; and two distributed in freshwater environments of Mexico and Guatemala (E. mexicanus and E. castroaguirrei). In the present research a phylogenetic hypotheses for the genus using molecular techniques is proposed. Specimens of Eugerres spp. and fraternal groups (Diapterus brevirostris and Gerres cinereus) were collected for this porpoise, from which, muscle tissue samples were taken for DNA extraction respectively. The amplification of a fragment of mitochondrial gene (CO1) was made by PCR for its further sequencing and alignment. Sequences of E. brasilianus and Eucinostomus currani were obtained from the barcode of life data system (BOLD System). The calculus of the genetic distances between species was obtained with neighbor joining (NJ) method, so that the greatest distance (31%) was shown between E. mexicanus-E. castroaguirrei and G. cinereus, the shortest distance (2%) was between E. awlae and E. plumieri. There was no genetic differentiation between E. mexicanus and E. castroaguirrei. These results are consistent with the phylogenetic reconstruction obtained from parsimony, maximum verosimilarity, and Bayesian inference methods, where three principal clades are recognized in their topologies, from which, it is established that genus Eugerres (sensu lato) forms a polyphyletic group and that the marine-estuarine group of Eugerres spp. reflects an evident phyletic relationship between the populations from the Pacific and Atlantic basins.
