Glass or crystal squids are distinguished from other cephalopods by their translucent appearance that gives them their common name. Because of their deep distribution and oceanic habitat, adult specimens of cranchiid squids rarely have been captured along with other commercial squids that are caught in shallow waters. We report the presence of the cranchiid squid Drechselia danae (Joubin, 1931) in the Mexican portion of the northeastern Pacific Ocean. Three mature specimens have been collected in Bahía de La Paz, BCS (male, 146 mm ML), off Tuxpan, Nayarit (female, 78 mm ML), and within the Gulf of Tehuantepec, in front of Puerto Ángel, Oaxaca (male, 135 mm ML). The three specimens all had characteristic straight cartilaginous strips with ten large multifid tubercles shaped as large rounded crowns that originated from the ventral margin of the mantle, towards the posterior region at each fusion of the mantle with the funnel, and 21 ocular photophores. We also observed several other characteristic features: a large central tooth on the chitin ring in the middle suckers on arms III (larger in males than in female); the shape of tentacles; and the hectocotilized arm in the males. The specimens were compared with the original Type specimens of Drechselia danae first described by Joubin, 1931 and with a very similar species Leachia dislocata. In Leachia dislocata the individual tubercles have different shape and position on the ventral mantle and less ocular photophores. The presence of adults of Drechselia danae confirms the species presence and wide distribution in the Mexican portion of the Pacific Ocean.
