Sagitta enflata is a species distributed around the world in tropical and subtropical regions, from 40ºN to 40°S latitude, living from the surface to several hundred meters depth in almost all oceans. Sagitta enflata is an abundant species in the Gulf of California, yet little is known about their role as predators of other zooplankton groups. We analyzed the gut contents of the chaetognath (S. enflata) found in the main mouth of Bahia de La Paz. The collection of organisms was done with 505-?m mesh nets with open-close-open mouths in vertical tows at four depths starting at the surface and at every 50 m, during May, July, and October 2001 and February 2002. Of a total of 16 species identified, S. enflata was the most abundant with S. decipiens second in abundance. The diet of S. enflata was dominated by the copepods Rhincalanus nasutus, Scolecithrix bradyi, Subeucalanus subcrassus, Pareucalanus sewelli, Nannocalanus minor, and Calanus pacificus, and with the larvae of euphausiids (Calyptopis) also found. There was a high incidence of cannibalism, particularly in February.
