The development of the female gonad of Chiton virgulatus (Sowerby, 1840) was determined, and its relationship with temperature in the Bay of La Paz, B. C. S. Adult chitons specimens were collected monthly from September 2008 to September 2009. The gonads were embedded in paraffin, sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. We were identified four phases of gonad development, undifferentiated, developing, ripe, and spent. From May 2009 undifferentiation frequencies were the lowest (0 to 4%) and highest in December 2008 to February 2009 (above 85%). The development was found almost every month of sampling, except October and December 2008 and January and February 2009. Since May 2009, the rates of development were high, the highest were observed from April to June (96%). Maturity, was launched in September and October 2008 and July-September 2009, with two reproductive peaks, the first in October 2008 (64%) and the second in September 2009. Spawning was presented in August 2008 (4%), and September 2009, coinciding with the peak of maturity. The spent only be observed after the breeding season of 2008. We found a statistically significant relationship between temperature and maturity.
