Approaching marine fisheries potential

During the last 60 years, the marine fisheries potential has been estimated between 22×106 tonnes and 1 400×106 tonnes. However, there are no indications of when and with what probability such potential will be reached. By fitting a logistic curve to the observed world marine catch, corrected for discards and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, here we calculated that such potential stands between 132×106 tonnes and 153×106 tonnes and might be achieved as soon as the year 2027, with 95% confidence.
