Descripti on of reproductive structures in sharks with different reproductive strategies
Marcela Bejarano-Álvarez, Felipe Galván-Magaña y Rosa Isabel Ochoa Báez
The cartilaginous fishes present a variety of reproductive specializations. Among the elasmobranchs there are two reproductive modes: oviparity and viviparity where we can distinguish aplacental and placental forms. Oviparous and viviparous species present morphological adaptations including the development of the ovaries, uterus and oviducal glands. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare these reproductive structures in female sharks with different reproductive strategies. Pregnant females were collected to remove the reproducti ve organs to their respective description.
