Mako shark is an extremely active species characterized by its capacity to swim at high velocities; it is the fastest swimmer among sharks. Mako shark diet consists of pelagic and demersal fishes. This study aimed to determine the differences of antioxidant defenses and trace elements between both sexes of mako sharks. Superoxide radical (O2.-) producti on, lipid peroxidati on levels (TBARS), the activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and the concentration.
