First record of Ceratium dens (Dinophyceae) in the Gulf of California
Ismael Gárate Lizárraga
The armored dinoflagellate Ceratium dens originally described from the Indian Ocean was recorded for the first time for both the Gulf of California and the Mexican Pacific in general. All available records of C. dens were analyzed. Geographic distribution of this species is mainly in subtropical and tropical waters. The presence of C. dens during the autumn 2009 in the Gulf of California waters could be related to El Niño Event conditions.
